factory reset XP home ed without disk
    « on: November 30, 2013, 11:48:01 PM »
I was given a Pavilion zd8000 17" laptop, need to reset back to the factory setting without CD's.  System restore only restores to a certain point.  I want a new and clean installation.

If you don't have a recovery partition (usually you'll get a prompt before Windows starts loading alon the lines of "press F12 to enter system recovery") you'll need the original install media.  If you don't have that, you'll probably need to contact HP, or failing that buy a new copy of Windows.

If you can borrow an exact copy of the version of Windows that you have on that computer, you can do a re-install using the codes that should be on a sticker on your computer.

The OP may wish to contact the HP forum and ask that question.

But if they do not help much, come bask here. I have owned two to three HP or Compaq computers and have found how to install XP without the exact CD.
But try them first. The issue is getting the right drivers. If it has a COA, you do not have to buy a retail CD.
