Need jumper settings for WD95044-A
« on: October 22, 2005, 05:01:23 PM »
I have an old Western Digital WD95044-A that I need to know the jumper settings for.  It does not tell the settings on the top of the hard drive, and the Help on Computer Hope only tells the heads, cylinders, etc., but not the jumper settings.  I have searched WD's site and elsewhere on the internet, but cannot find a manual or other information on what the jumper settings are.  Any idea where I could find this information or anyone have information for a similar hard drive (IDE 42 MB, circa 1990).  It appears to have only 3 jumpers (6 pins) beside the IDE connector.  Thanks.

Turn the drive over so you see the pcb>printed circuit board.......you should see symbols....../pk/cs/ds near the jumper bridge>the plastic thing....?cs would be the choice.

It has numbers: 2 4 6 on the underside of the pcb (where the pins go through) - no other symbols.  It is currently jumpered on 3-4.

Don't know for that particular model, but based on other WD drives:
Looking at the rear of the drive, top facing up, from right to left:
    cs, slave, master
The absence of a jumper is for single drive operation. Although some drives have a jumper position for this, it does absolutely nothing except keep you from losing the jumper.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

Glenn Hosford.....  This should help you .

if you are installing two intelligent drives
you must designate one of them as the
primary or "master" and the other as the
secondary or "slave". Jumper your Western
Digital intelligent drive accordingly: A jumper on pins 3-4 designates an intelligent drive as a slave; a jumper on pins 5-6 designates an intelligent drive as a master.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for.

btw, I like your quote, but it's not that IE users have no logic, they just have to pay (a bill) for it. ;)
