    computer won't boot
    « on: December 24, 2013, 12:50:25 PM »
Hi I was on my desk top a Dell 8300,Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit ,then a blue screen with an error message came up about  some thing about dump:?
Now the computer won't boot up. Ive tried to boot up in the safe mode/F4/F8 with no luck. The configuration settings come up , but that is all, then the screen goes black and just stays there. Any way to get this computer to boot??

    Thanks Dan

Hi all.   Now I'm getingt an error message: "Missing Operating System".  When trying to use my restore disk I get this error message:  "Status:0xc00000e9"
I also tried to reinstall Windows 7 from a CD with NO luck.  I would like to boot up in the safe mode but so far I can't find where to get into the safe mode.  It use to be F4 or F8.  I tried both with NO luck.  Thanks for any help.

You can't boot to Safe Mode if the OS is missing.

Look at the configuration settings (CMOS setup, BIOS setup, many different names for the same thing).
Is date & time correct?  If not, you need a new CMOS battery, CR2032, available everywhere, i.e. supermarket, drug store, etc.

I got a blue screen error message saying "memory dump". Now when I start my computer it says "missing operating system".
        1. I tried to reinstall Windows 7/64 bit with my installation disk. Didn't work.
        2. Tried to use a system restore disk that I made when the computer was new. Didn't work.
3.Tried to boot up from an old HD with windows on it. No luck
        4. Tried to boot up in the safe mode. Got the same error message.

I just checked the BIOS setup and date/time.  All are correct.

What more can I do to recover my missing operating system?
How does a computer "lose" an operating system?

If you couldn't install from the CD...most likely it's the HDD...
DLoad the Free diagnostics from the drive manuf. site and follow the info on creating a bootable CD...
        Run the Long test.

Who makes the disc........Dell or the manufacturer of the hard drive?  If it isn't Dell, how do I find out who makes the hard drive?

Open a side panel...the HDD will be labeled on top.

It's not a Driver update...you need to DLoad the diagnostics for checking the HDD...
I believe they are still called DataLifeguard from the WD site...
Again follow the info on creating a bootable CD and run the Long test.

HI If I download  DataLifeguard how do I get it to boot in my computer? It looks like all it does is check on my HD's.
I download it but it is a Zip file, if i put the flash drive in my computer it won't read it.How can unzip onto my flash drive, then it just might work?
              Thanks Dan
