ican card reader being sold with outdated driver help
« on: February 01, 2014, 08:18:31 PM »
Hello. I installed a Ican card reader. The driver CD that came with it opens a realtek driver installation which makes me assume its a realtek card reader. however after installing it i get a triangle with an ! and in the submenu from device manager it says

"the device cannot start"

I had the driver which i downloaded but i forget how to get it. no where on the box does it tell me a model number. how to get a hardware id in device manager for my card reader? im running win 7 ultimate

To get the device ID, right click on the device in device manager, go to properties, details, then change the dropdown box to hardware IDs.  If you post the first part here, e.g. VEN_13F6&DEV_8788 then that should assist us in finding an updated driver for you, if one is available.

It's an infrared reciever...which 7 should have a native driver for ...
Right clik the device listings (2) and select un-install.
Re-boot and Windows should automatically re-install the device.

P.S. I cannot see the card reader in your screenshot...

I think by default it may be a hidden device...put a card in it and then do the following and re-boot:

Quote
"Go to Start -> Computer -> Organize -> Folder and search options -> click View tab -> uncheck "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder" -> OK"

Most likely because they are XP drivers... You may need to purchase a card reader supported by Win7,,,which shouldn't cost too much...

i just bought it 2 months ago. on the box it says ICAN card reader. i had it working but then had to reinstall everything due to a hard drive failure. so now i cant find the driver i used. the box says compatible with win 7.
