    I went to ftp.gnome.org downloaded this file (LATEST-IS-1.11.90) windows will not open all I was trying to do was download there spreadsheet for windows. any better ideas?

    What's the complete filename and extension ? ?
    Look at the file on your PC...not at the site.

    What you got from ftp.gnome.org looks like a Linux file. Gnumeric (The Gnome spreadsheet) did not have a Windows build of version 1.11.90. If you want a Windows build of build 1.12.9 you can get it from this link:
