computer freezes and won't shut down

My computer freezes every time I use Firefox.  Also, when going to shut down the computer it says that a program is running and preventing shut down and it does not show any program names that are running.  When I force shut down clips of webpages quickly show as it is shutting down.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.

The Security Check shows you have three AV's on your computer. You should only have one AV activated on your computer.This could be one cause of the freezing. You will have to disable two of them.

Remove the Adware:

• Please close all open programs and internet browsers.
• Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.

• Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.

I ran the ESET Online Scanner and it found no threats but did not give me the option for a report.  The computer has been running normal again and is not having problems shutting down.

Sorry Dave I spoke to soon.  I just went to reboot the computer and a warning screen came up stating that a program was running and preventing shut down but it did not list a program, after a few seconds it stated that explorer.exe was running.  I closed down all programs prior to shutting down.

Download Windows Repair (all in one) from this site
Install the program then run it.

Go to Step 2 and allow it to run CheckDisk by clicking on Do It button:



Once that is done then go to Step 3 and allow it to run System File Check by clicking on Do It button:



Go to Step 4 and under "System Restore" click on Create button:



Go to Start Repairs tab and click Start button.



Please ensure that ONLY items seen in the image below are ticked as indicated (they're all checked by default):



Click on box next to the Restart System when Finished. Then click on Start.
