Comparing an older, bigger GPU with a newer, smaller one.
« on: January 16, 2014, 04:06:57 PM »
So I have an old Geforce 7900 GT 256MB and a Geforce GT 630 2GB that I'm putting in older computers. My only real hopes for these computers are to run CoD4 or Starcraft 2, so nothing too intensive. But, I would like to know which one is more powerful. I would have just assumed that the GT 630 was better but, as you can tell, it doesn't even use power directly from the PSU.

So, which one is better?

The GT 630 looks like this one(it's a 430 in the picture)
The 7900 GT looks like this

After checking a benchmark website it appears that the 630 is 2 or 3 times better, thanks! /thread

Both cards will run those games, however you might not get the greatest performance out of either. They both claim that minimum is GeForce 6600GT +, but this doesnt mean that it will run perfect at the 6600, it just means that the game will function.

If you already own both cards you can try one and then try the other, or you can just go with online benchmark results to show which is better.

I took your advice and googled it. Comparing their results it appears that the 630 is about 2-3 times better. Thanks!

The 630 is better by a mile, and a lot more power efficient too.
