Setting the default browser
« on: February 11, 2014, 11:21:24 AM »
I am running Vista Ultimate and have a dial up connection.
I seem to be often taken over by one program or another and spend considerable time getting rid of them.
I do have Windows Defender and a pop up blocker.
To my subject line I know how to get to the selection box, 'Manage ad ons' .
My primary problem: When I set Google as default browser it doesn't take effect.
Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?

1) Windows Defender is a worthless waste of resources

2) Do you have a full time anti virus app installed and resident?

3) I suggest you make sure your system is malware free. Please follow the instructions in the following link and post your logs in the thread you create (NOT in this thread):

Windows Defender is not an anti-virus.
MS says: "Windows Defender is your first line of defense against spyware and other unwanted software."

It seems to be installed, by default, on Windows 7, don't know about Vista.

What web browser are you using?

I do have Windows Defender and a pop up blocker.
Disable Windows Defender and install one or more good protection apps such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware.   After installation, run a quick scan and remove any items found from your computer.  Then, try resetting your home page.

???  What was the point of merely quoting my posted comments without adding any of your own comments?

OK, thanks for shedding some light on it.  That's helpful to anyone reading this discussion thread, not only me.
