Setting internet options
« on: February 14, 2014, 02:26:46 PM »
Clicking on tools in Internet Explorer brings up the little drop down box, internet options.
When I choose a search provider it will always go to my internet connection.
I want it to take me to Google, Yahoo or some provider.
What am I doing wrong?

Why not just change the home page to be www.google.com at the General Tab in ( Tools -> Internet Options -> General ) and this way when the browser launches your at Google, and searches entered there will use Googles search engine?

I never had to specify search rules as what it appears you are trying to modify in the browser settings.

Huh?  I can't make sense of that statement.  Obviously, you can't do an online search if you aren't connected to the Internet.  Can you clarify what you mean?

It was my assumption from this that they may have been referring to this, although as you said its not very clear. This was my assumption in the attached pic below.

Yes, I agree your image shows where to change the default Search, but what does he mean by "go to my internet connection".  What does his Internet connection have to do with his choice of Search service?

Having a dialup connection anything I put in internet search box seems to call up my internet provider.
What I want it to do is select the default that is something such as Google, yahoo or such.
When I set any of these as a search provider (with manage search providers) my puter dials my internet connection and all I see is my provider's splash page.
Sorry I confused you...

OK, the picture is clearer now.  Keep in mind that many of us have not used dial-up connections for many years.  And, of course, that makes us happier Internet users.  I can't imagine having to use a slow dial-up connection again.

I'm not sure this will help but I suggest you try dialing to establish your Internet connection first, and then opening your browser.  Then, see whether you can get the home page setting to stick by taking this approach to connecting every time you go online.

You could also call your provider about this.  Most Internet service providers provide some level of tech support.

Edit:
Having a dialup connection anything I put in internet search box seems to call up my internet provider.
What is the point of putting a search phrase in your browser before you establish your Internet connection?

I understand; a little...
I like to see the Google blossom after I have read my mail...

Now I understand your comment about: Why the post of merely your  prior posting.
Explanation: I tried to reply to your post but my comments didn't go...There is magic in 'Computer Hope.'

I am required to first establish a connection and then select a browser.
I'm saving my pennies to go 'hi speed'.

If I can get it 'right' it will load my prefered browser for me.
