    BSOD - ox000000F4 Error
    « on: February 21, 2014, 05:48:03 AM »
    Hi,

I am having trouble with my Laptop Samsung core i3 R480 laptop which runs Win 7.

Very often the system goes into freeze mode and endup with BSOD screen with the message

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.

    Technical Information:
    **STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x8763ADO, 0x87638c3c, 0x82C67EBO)

And sometimes it also dies with the KERNEL-DATA-INPUT-ERROR Message

Please let me know if you need more info.

    Thanks in advance
    Arun

    KERNEL-DATA-INPUT-ERROR

Are you sure? If it really says KERNEL-DATA-INPAGE-ERROR then it's a hardware issue -  probably RAM or possibly hard drive.

Potential causes: hard drive errors or failing, malware, ram, other

        1) Please check the hd:

        Hard Drive Diagnostics:
        http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

Make sure you select the tool which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), to make the CD bootable.
For Toshiba drives, see here: http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=ServicesSupport/FujitsuDrivesUSandCanada/SoftwareUtilities#diagnostic

        2) Run full system scans with BOTH your anti virus app and with MalwareBytes

        3) download memtest (http://memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso burning utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility.

Let's see where we are after you've done the above.

My Hard disk is Western Digital 320 GB. Under Device Manager the Disk Drive says "WDC WD3200BPVT-16ZEST0 ATA Device". Please help me choose which Hard Drive Diagnostics tool should I use.  Thanks once again

My HDD and anti virus scan came fine with no issues reported.

I ran the memtest, first run for almost 12 hrs but my kid unintentionally restarted my system (it was no error reported then)

I am rerunning this again this weekend, so far 15 hrs crossed with no error 13 passes but have no sign of completion, is this normal?

Yes, that's normal. It will keep running until you stop it.

Based on the BSOD report you posted it seems the errors only occur once in a while. Do they happen when you are doing anything in specific or can they happen any time?

Please look in Device Manager. Are there any yellow or red symbols?

Regarding Device Manager... there is no yellow or red symbols but CD/DVD Rom drive is with Gray ! symbol. is this normal?

Not really, no. Insert a program cd or dvd. Does the drive work?

How to obtain hard drive S.M.A.R.T data on a Windows system and then paste the report into a forum post
                    • Download the GSmartControl installer application:
                      • Go to the GSmartControl - Downloads page.
                      • Scroll part way down the page to where the current version available for download will be displayed.
                      • Double-click the downloaded application to run it and install GSmartControl on the computer.
                        Note: Vista/Win7 users, right-click > Run as Administrator[/*]
                      • When installation is complete, run GSmartControl:
                        • Start GSmartControl from the Start > Programs menu.
                        [/*]
                      • When the interface has loaded and scanning for hard drives is complete, click on the hard drive icon to select the device.[/*]
                      • Go to Device on the top menu > View Details, and a new Device Information window will open.[/*]
                      • Click on the Attributes tab to display the S.M.A.R.T data values.[/*]
                      • Near the bottom of the window, click on View Output and a new Smartctl Output window will open.[/*]
                      • Right-click anywhere inside that window > Select All.[/*]
                      • Again right-click in that selected area > Copy.[/*]
                      • Now paste that in a reply to your topic.

Sounds as though the drive needs to be replaced.

                        :(

It's the optical drive, not the hd that needs to be replaced based on what I've  read above.
