    Problems after system recovery
    I made a system recovery on my XP Home and whenI got done I can't find my firewall
    in the ctr panel. I need lots of updates and can't get them either.
    What do I need to do to get this working ?
     The recovery seemed to work ok with 7 cd discs.
    I have another computer hooked up using a router that works good.W-7
     Then I need to get wildblue email and antivirus going again

    Let's try this.

    Download then run Farbar Service Scanner and checkmark all boxes. Click Scan and then a Notepad text will open. Copy-Paste the report on your next reply.

      My advice:

      1) Insert your ORIGINAL XP disk (or other OS media - NOT the disk you used to restore).

      2) Open Windows Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> "cmd.exe" -> enter)

      3) In Command Prompt type:

                  Sfc /scanonce

           ( SFC is System File Checker. Built-in Windows tool to check the Windows file structure)

      4) Then restart your machine.

      That should handle the missing files. To handle services, the restart could fix it. If not, check msconfig (do the aboce, but rather than "sfc /scannow" just type "msconfig"). They could be altered on the "Services" tab... If that's not the case, then un-install and re-install whatever program is having issues.

      There's my advice. :)

        Depends how the recovery disk was made. Maybe usable, maybe not.

        You could possibly pick an XP disk up from a local shop. Shouldn't cost much. Otherwise I'd advise doing an upgrade to Win 7 if possible.
