Software for reading scanned text

Hello,
I am looking for software that I can install to be able to read text from a scanner.. nothing elaborate or complicated.... but on occasion would like to be able to do it.. for home use...would appreciate any suggestions..

What you want is called OCR  software.

Many commercial programs are available. Many are packed with a scanner.

Mulch-Function printers made by Brother, Epson and HP are examples.

Some free OCR software can be downloaded. Here is a limk I think is good and free of virus:

i knwo that some scanners already have OCR built into them as a function and providing the font is clear enough they can scan straight to word/pdf formats.
