Stereoscopic 3D doesn't really have a 'use' outside looking cool. Especially considering the interface would still be a 2-d touchscreen. Right now it's best application is for games (such as found with the 3ds) and even then it is still something of a gimmick (though it's almost necessary for some games). Add to this the problem that some people cannot actually see stereoscopic 3D and it's not entirely clear what purpose it could have in a general purpose mobile device.

I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

LG made a 3D phone a while ago and look at how well that took off.  I really didn't see the point - Using 3D cut the screen resolution in half and the actual 3D interface was fairly pointless.  On top of that it hurt my eyes after prolonged period of use.

It's just another gimmick that media outlets are saying will "hurt Apple" in headlines purely to get attention.
