grey screen

Having recently moved, i switched my laptop on, it seemed to by loading however the screen is grey.
I have tried several things, but no luck.
Could the move have damaged my monitor. How do i resolve this.

Can you hook up an external monitor to see if the proble is with the screen/connection or with the video adapter in the laptop itself?
