    MS Word 2013 corrupt file
    « on: July 29, 2014, 05:03:49 PM »
I have a file that it now says it can't open because the file is invalid or corrupted. I have tried all the basic and obvious fixes like the built in recovery in word and rename the file extension, trying to export it out, even mess with the file header (had help on that one). Even downloaded some 3rd party software that was supposed to be able to recover these files, but no luck.
It either gives me the error message again or have been able to get it to open, but it just comes out as joberish or pages of little boxes. Hope someone has miracle fix quick. Need this file for work quickly.

Was this file originally created in Word 2013?  If not, then what software was used to create it?

And, is that Windows 8.1 system the same computer on which you cannot open the file?  Or, are you trying to open it on another computer?  And, if the latter, then what version of Office is on that computer?

It's was created on Windows 8.1. Tried to initially open on that same system. Then made copies and tried it on a Windows 7 and Windows Vista systems and office 2010.

I am not sure what you are asking. I copy / pasted from my windows explorer onto a flash drive as well as emailing a copy to myself at home. Had same results with both methods.

Copy/Paste only retrieves the text data....most likely here is where it went South.

I didn't copy paste the information from within the document. I can't even open the document. I copied the entire file from the original pc I created it on to other pc's to see if it was a problem with the software on the original pc. I haven't had any luck with that. Hope that helps answer your question.
