Windows 8 will not accept Microsoft Office 2010 - need loophole

Hello

I just got a new computer with Windows 8.1 64-bit - old computer was Windows 7 64-bit. Wanted to install Office 2010 by downloading from my Microsoft page - but it will not accept Windows 8. Look at the picture - it is danish, so translation: "Problems under installation of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010: This program demands Windows 7, Windows Vista SP1 or Windows XP SP3."

I really hope one of you geniuses have a loophole!

Here are all options I could come up with:

- Upgrade to newer Office

- Install 7 along side 8 as a dual boot system if you have a unused Windows 7 key and installation media.

- Install a virtual machine environment with XP or 7 and install 2010 to this virtual environment to run it from. (* This works very good for MS Office... I have done this in the past with a virtual system that I wanted to be portable on a 16GB thumb drive between 2 sites that were not network bridge or internet VPN connected due to very limited internet bandwidth. )

- Downgrade back to 7

How are you trying to install office?  From a retail DVD?  Microsoft list Office 2010 as compatible with Windows 8.

I have a Product Key Card and wanted to download the software again from my Microsoft account - so really I don't see the problem. because many say that Office 2010 works on their Windows 8 computer. Well, according to the internet

I'm absolutely sure Office 2010 will run on Windows 8.  This is confirmed by http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624351(v=office.14).aspx#section4.  I even have Office 2007 Professional installed on my Windows 8.1 notebook PC and it works fine.

I have seen some place that Office 2010 will only work on a computer with Windows 8 - if - Office 2010 was installed before the computer was updatede to Windows 8. I would be so happy if it wasn't the case - but it is and I don't know what to do

Yes, it will.  Just because you can't get it working on your computer doesn't mean it will not work with Windows 8.  Again, I provided a link for system requirements which tells you it Windows 8 supports Office 2010 Home and Student.

I'm quite sure that is nonsense.  Without a good reference to support your supposition, it is just conjecture.  You are concluding merely from your personal experience what is causing the problem; you do not have a valid basis for your statement.

It is authorised - Microsofts own page. I have a real keycard - it is not some cheap stuff from a fake site.

It is not an english version because I'm danish and live in Denmark - I just write here because there are not some many computer forum in Denmark.

Also the article mentions the Starter ver....why would you use that if you have a key ? ?
Try a DLoad of the Full version and see.

I don't know what a DLoad is. What is that?
Do not have a CD, but a keycard to the software. I was downloading Office 2010 - had used my keycard. Then the problem came.

Don't use the Starter ver...that may be the issue.

Have you tried setting the setup program to Compatibility mode? That could "trick" it into thinking it is running on win7.

This is not a limitation of Office 2010 in general, but of the Starter Edition, because the Starter Edition is OEM Only (it is provided on the system). The Product Key you have is for reinstalling it on the original system, which came with a compatible OS.

Okay soybean - I do not want to discuss because I actually have a problem.

I never said you did not have a problem.  But, you seemed to be saying Office 2010 will not run in Windows 8.1, as though that were an absolute fact for all users of Windows 8.1.  And, I was saying that's not true, as confirmed by the official source I posted on system requirements of Office 2010. 

And now, since your reply to my last post prior to this, we've learned that you apparently had Office Starter installed, or attempted to install it.  I think we need clarification on the status of Office Starter and your computer.  Do you have Office Starter installed or did you previously have it installed or did you attempt to install it but not actually get it installed?  If you have it now, you'll need to remove it in order to install a paid version of Office 2010.

I have not Office 2010 - still don't know the problem. Have tried many things. Been in contact with Microsoft - Tried to get it from my old harddisk - Tried to get the computer to think it was a Windows 7. Nothing worked - but I have Office 2007.
