    Dload is Download
    https://www2.downloadoffice2010.microsoft.com/usa/registerkey.aspx?culture=EN-US&ref=backup&country_id=US
Link above is US English download.

    https://www2.downloadoffice2010.microsoft.com/row/registerkey.aspx?culture=da-DK&ref=backup
    The above maybe Danish.

Product Key can vary by region, language and class.

Have you tried setting the setup program to Compatibility mode? That could "trick" it into thinking it is running on win7.

This is not a limitation of Office 2010 in general, but of the Starter Edition, because the Starter Edition is OEM Only (it is provided on the system). The Product Key you have is for reinstalling it on the original system, which came with a compatible OS.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Thank you the trick - but unfortunately it didn't work

Does this mean that it is the reason why Office will not work?

How to get Office Starter 2010 working on Windows 8

      Quote
If you bought a new Windows 7 PC, there's a good chance that it has Office Starter 2010 pre-installed on your hard drive. This software suite from Microsoft contains stripped down versions of Word and Excel that are supported by ad banners.
If you want to continue to use Office Starter 2010 when you upgrade your Windows 7 PC to Windows 8, Microsoft has now set up a support page specifically to address this situation.
      ...
Microsoft will discontinue Office Starter 2010 .

Okay soybean - I do not want to discuss because I actually have a problem.
I never said you did not have a problem.  But, you seemed to be saying Office 2010 will not run in Windows 8.1, as though that were an absolute fact for all users of Windows 8.1.  And, I was saying that's not true, as confirmed by the official source I posted on system requirements of Office 2010.

And now, since your reply to my last post prior to this, we've learned that you apparently had Office Starter installed, or attempted to install it.  I think we need clarification on the status of Office Starter and your computer.  Do you have Office Starter installed or did you previously have it installed or did you attempt to install it but not actually get it installed?  If you have it now, you'll need to remove it in order to install a paid version of Office 2010.

I have not Office 2010 - still don't know the problem. Have tried many things. Been in contact with Microsoft - Tried to get it from my old harddisk - Tried to get the computer to think it was a Windows 7. Nothing worked - but I have Office 2007.
Thanks for the help to everybody who gave it some thoughts and gave a reply :)

You could try something like OpenOffice.
Windows 8 and Windows 10 dual boot with two SSD's

        General Reference.
There are a number of Office Suites besides Microsoft Office.

Of course, they are not clones of the Microsoft product.
Each one a different in  some way.  :)
