problems playing sounds

hello,
resently my computer stop playing certain sounds. winamp and media player play everything no problem but sounds other or played outside dont work anymore. i tryed uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling.

can have any help

What operating system? What about multimedia settings in the Control Panel? What does that tell you? What about system settings in control panel? ANy yellow explamation points?

xp pro no i was in device manager no errors there check all my sound settings nothing was mutted there was no problem that was able to see

And you have installed up to date adware/spyware/virus scanners to rule out any mischief of that sort? What are you using?

Do you have QuickTime or RealPlayer Virus loaded by chance?

i use avg / zone alarm / spybot and adware

no viruses or malware

nope no sound on start up or shutdown

also if i go into the window where you can edit your sounds and i hit the play button there is also no sound

nice to see a new avatar do you have one with a map of a  brain...........go to the bios setup.....on your pc.....most have the del key/f1/2 on boot.....and chose from the list .....f9 setup defaults....to enable sound.....still not clear as to what operating system is used.... ???

reseting the bios didnt help :( ???
