data transfer from c: to usb
    « on: November 06, 2005, 02:07:00 AM »
before i tinkered with the settings on my computer, trasnferring files from my playstation portable (memory stick pro duo) to/from computer would take seconds (roughly a couple of MB per second).  now, its exponentially slower (roughly a couple of MB per minute).  are there settings i can tweak to change this?

since the change, ive added a hard drive, installed norton utilities, zone alarm, screwed with the bios, clean installed windows xp.  norton utilities says nothing is wrong (except it keeps on asking for a third hard drive? (hdd number 3).  anyways, what can i change to make usb trasnfer faster?

Try taking Zone Alarm off the system and just using the XP firewall.

Also check the UDMA rate and make sure it isn't running on PIO.

Mac, get your head out of your bung. Xp firewall isn't worth the mouse click it takes to activate it.

Try turning off the AV real time scanning when transfering files.
