Can't output sound on tv from my Dell Dimension 4700

If i put speakers in the green jack of my computer it will work, but when i try to put in on my hd tv no sound comes out, the drivers are SoundMAX integrated digital audio, and the video output is dvi with a hdmi converter.

    Look at your TV's HDMI port, it should be marked "Video #". Now look for audio port marked "Video #". The numbers should be identical. Furthermore, does your TV have only mono sound? Try changing the audio balance from one speaker to the other.
