Let's start with a basic question if I may. How long does it take to boot?

I tried to download "startuplite" but all I got was a panel that said "no unnessary startups found".  On that panel was "For a list of startup detected by startuplite, click here"  When I clicked there a new page came up with this "This page can not be displayed"  It is apparent that I'm doing something  wrong.  Let it go, I will just use what I have.    Thanks for your effort.     Bob

My suggestion was Startup CPL...not Startup Lite...

Unless I'm missing it in the thread, I don't think you've told us how long it takes to start. Please tell us.

From the time I press the on switch to the background screen is 45 seconds.  It takes  1 minute and 15 seconds more to get the home page or 2 minutes from turn on to home page.  I have no idea that this is slower than normal but my computer seems to run much faster after the home page is up.    When I asked my question I expected someone to tell me where the add-ons were and how to delete them.  Instead everybody answered.  I'm sorry I caused so much trouble but I thank you all.   Bob

What particular browser does it happen? Have you tried a different alternative, firefox, chrome? What if you delete the startup home page and change it to a different one temporarily? The boot up time of 45 seconds looks fine.

Yes I run defrag. ... The local disk has 332 GB free of 440 GB.   Bob
You can get somewhat better load time by using a larger disk. Or use a large disk and divide it into two or more partition.s The second partition would be for things you want to archive e but do not use on a regular basis. Like downloads, old movies and photos of your vacation.

Even easier , just add a second drive and transfer your archive  items to the second drive. Easy upgrade that can improve start up. Many references refute that because the improvement is not phenomenal, merely  incremental.

Sad to say, but some tech writers have been influenced by the people that want to sell you dubious software to 'clean up' your computer.

Here is one more easy tip. I have set by BIOS to turn on the computer at 8 AM in the morning. I seldom get up before that. After my coffee and pills, the PC is already for me to start surfing the web.

Bob -  there is nothing wrong with your load time.

Loading time is based on your computer software and hardware while opening the homepage has almost everything to do with the ISP speed. As suggested, you could try another home page to see which loads faster. Some sites are slower than others to access. According to the website, startupCPL is only good up to XP.

I've ran Startup CPL all the way up to Win7...
          Still works fine.

          Try it...

Guys - from power on to final completion of boot (all processes loaded) is 2 minutes. There is no problem here.

If he wants to shave time off the load time to home page from power on to home page the SSD upgrade is his best bet as i suggested early on on the 6th. He stated that its beyond his expertise, but he could bring it to a computer shop to get a SSD upgrade and have Windows 7 booted in like 15 seconds to desktop after bios splash screen disappears as my one 6 year old gaming computer took to get to desktop at clean install of 7 with everything loaded on a far less powerful AMD Athlon 64 X2 4450B at 2.53Ghz with 10% overclock. I havent timed it lately to see if its taking longer as for if it is, I have yet to feel as if its lagging. The SSD drive definitely makes the 6 year old computer boot fast as if it was new.

Bobs system more powerful than mine might get to desktop in less than 10 seconds from when the bios splash screen disappears. Then the only thing slowing him down at the home page is if he has a slow ISP connection. I set my homepage to default of google for my browsers. I then navigate elsewhere from there.

            Hi  -
I am impressed with the help I have been given for what I though was a simple question.  I noticed today when I logged on that things happened faster.  I did not check the clock but it was faster.  Some of the suggestions were more than I could handle but I appreciated them anyway.  I am happy with what I have.  I don't want anyone to think I am ungrateful but lets say my problem has been solved and close this thread.   Thanks to all.     Bob
