I believe OS was in the hard drive.
So, I need to buy window 7  and install it?
Or Sony vaio company could provide the OS oruginally installed on it?

If I buy window 7, could I install it in several  computer?
Because I have a desk computer which need upgrade (window vista installed)

      These questions are often asked.
Microsoft, the maker of Windows,  sells a license to run Windows on  just one computer. Volume pricing is only for very large antiquates for one company.

When anyone first uses a new computer,  he should make a backup copy of the OS for use in case of a failure. If the computer is still under warranty, the computer maker should replace both the hard drive and the Operating System.

Can you locate the the Product Key for the computer?
Here is what a product key might look like:

      Can you find it?

      A) HDD's do not ship with an OS installed...
      B) If the PC has a COA sticker on it you can DLoad and re-install 7 for no charge...
      C) You cannot buy Win7 and install it on more than 1 PC unless you buy a volume package...

The COA could be on a sticker somewhere else on your computer.

Look for Windows COA inside battery compartment.

        COA = Certificate of Authenticity.
Or Sony vaio company could provide the OS oruginally installed on it?
They probably can provide that; most PC manufacturers do so.  They may charge a small fee but it will be much less than the cost of buying Windows on the retail market.  They would need to know the model # and serial # for your computer.

I myself didn't experience any problems with my last two laptops (both from Sony).

I hope things worked out for you.
