    CD-R
    « on: July 11, 2015, 08:44:33 PM »
:)I have more than 100 CD-Rs from 15,10,5 years ago. Some burned from apple ,some from PC and some from Kodak Photo CD. All of them have images from cameras, from computers.
I understand the CD-Rs I own, must have different formats.
That is why, I believed, is the problem.
My new PC with windows-8, can read some and not others.
I have Photoshop SC-5,and I  have some CDs with good readings, and not get any reading with some other CDs. Other photo software I have, can not recognize some CDs.
When I put a CD in the driver of my computer HP Pavillon. The full load of files(images) in some CDs are not available
I would like to know if there is a Software I can buy, to translate old formats from the CDs, to a compatible format in my Pavillon Windows-8 CDs.(JPEG)
    Thank you
    Edgard Zamalloa :)

I don't think it is likely a format issue. The most likely cause is, unfortunately- that the CD-Rs degraded and are no longer readable.

CD-R's typically have a short shelf-life of around 5 years, with special "archival" Discs going for maybe 10-15 years.

it is incredibly likely that the Discs have degraded and are no longer readable. I have several discs burned in 2002/2003 which are no longer readable, but others which are. It seems to depend on the brand and the particulars of the disc. But there is no recovery of the data- at least none that are consumer-accessible, I expect.

Disc Formats are standardized, and have been for several decades. There isn't software to read 'older disc formats' because there are no 'older disc formats' to support; A Photo CD burned in 2000 is the same as a Photo CD burned today.

        Kodak Photo CD  proprietary format
Google the above and find tools that read the format.

You can make a CD in that format and use it to prove it is not a forma tissue.

Other factors include the overall quality of the raw material and manufacturing and most importantly the way the medium is treated by the user. The handling of an optical disc probably has the most significant impact on its longevity

Kodak Photo CD had a proprietary format
Kodak Photo CDs couldn't be burned in home systems. it was a Disc that you received from the photo developer. Even so, they conformed to CD-ROM XA which is defined in the "Beige book" standard. It would also be odd to get a Photo CD in ~2000 given that it had already been eclipsed by other standards.

If in fact they ARE Kodak Photo CDs (or even Photo CDs in general), the list on this wikii article regarding software that can deal with the Photo CD standard may be useful.

I have a Kodak Photo CD supplied in 1998 that reads just fine. It was produced from a roll of Fuji 35mm negative film at a UK Boots company shop (now part of Walgreens Boots Alliance).

          Thank you to all respondents.
I knew from the start, it was a FORMAT Problem!!!!!
Thanks to help I received from Micro Center Technical Support, Fairfax Va:
Now,I can see a list of my images from 15 years ago  with the help of HFS Explorer... :) :) :)My images are there :) :) :)
Right now I am in a second step, I am trying to get Paragon HFS+, so I can translate my CDs, from Mac format to PC format.
DATA IN CDs LAST FROM 25 TO 50 YEARS.
Thank you again to all of you.

Sure glad you fixed it...but if we had known they were from a MAC the confusion would have been lessened...
