    Problems with Outlook 2010
    « on: September 05, 2015, 10:44:46 PM »
I have been using Windows Live Mail (with hotmail in it) for many years on my desktop and notebook. I recently had my desktop reformatted, it came back fine. In the meantime I had been using Windows Live Mail combined with hotmail on my notebook and it started to give me msgs about not being able to download or send.

Then when I started using W Live Mail on the desktop, the problems started with Windows Live Mail and Hotmail again.

I was advised to instal Microsoft Outlook 2010, and when I installed it I got a message (see attached). I left the screen for 2 hours, when I came back, nothing has changed, and I cant click on "Upgrade Outlook Connector" either as I get another msg. (also attached).

I wondered if my having Microsoft Outlook 2003 installed had anything to do with it - but have deleted it now and the problem persists.

    Can you help please?

Just uninstall Outlook Hotmail Connector (Control Panel - Programs and Features) and then download and install the current version (if you need it).

Allan, Outlook Hotmail Connector is not shown in "add & remove programs" - obviously it is within Microsoft Office Home & Business 2010, and it does not give me a choice to uninstall just one item.

You're looking for "Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector" in add/remove programs. See if you can find that.

There seem to be a LOT of folks with the same issue. Please forgive a silly question, but you did install the 64 bit version of MS Office, correct? If not, please try the 32 bit version of Hotmail Connector.

Assuming you ARE running the 64 bit version of Office, try downloading and installing Hotmail Connector from this link. Some folks claim it works for the problem you're describing: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/search/Results.aspx?q=hotmail%20connector%2064%20bit%20for%20outlook%202010&form=DLC

Yes, Windows is 64 bit and even with that last message from you - the site still says

"the 32-bit version of Microsoft Outlook is installed.  Download and install the 32-bit version of Microsoft Outlook hotmail Connector."
              then
"Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector 64-bit setup wizard ended prematurely because of an error.  Your system has not been modified.  To install the program at a later time, run setup wizard again.  Click the finish button to exit the setup wizard"

A problem that I am having is, I am getting in and out mail on my bendigo address, but not hotmail - it seems to be stuck at a certain point and wont move on.

It doesn't matter what version of Windows you have. If Office is the 32 bit version then you need to install the 32 bit version of Hotmail Connector. Your last post is very unclear about what version is installed.

The computer is 64 bit - how do I tell if Office is 32 or 64?

Obviously it doesnt matter.   I will try again with the 32 bit site.

Can I just say, that apart from the error message (which I hope you can help me fix) - it seems to be going now, but it still says on the bottom of the screen "connected to Windows Live Hotmail" - why?

                        Also, I have listed
                        Outlook Data File (empty)
                        geniebug
                        joodyanne

Why do I need the empty one - did I make a mistake - can I delete it?

                        Okay, let's do this.

                        1) In Outlook, click on FILE and on the left side click on OPTIONS, ADD-INS and on the right side at the bottoms where it says COM Add-Ins in the drop down box click on GO. Find the Hotmail Connector and UNcheck it and click on OK.

                        2) Again, click on FILE, then on the right side choose ACCOUNT SETTINGS (and again, Account Settings if necessary). In the window that opens choose the Data Files tab. Delete any unused data files. NOTE - be sure not to delete your default data file (the one you use for your primary email account)

Close Outlook and then open it again. Let's see what happens.

You cannot delete the one that is checked. Select one as the default data file (if you have emails you want to save, be sure you choose the correct one) and make that the default account. Then highlight the other and click on DELETE. If you want to delete both accounts, create a new one and make it the default account. Then delete the others.

Under email accounts it just shows geniebug and then joody_anne (geniebug is ticked) and is the default.
However under Data Files I have geniebug, then joodyanne (which says not available) and the Outlook data file which is checked.

I dont want to lose the emails on either geniebug and joodyanne.  Data file is empty

I guess I could delete the hotmail one (joodyanne) as I can always read the emails on the browser?

The other thing that bothers me, is every time I start Outlook it says "Preparing to instal" - but it IS installed!!

and I am still getting the error message "task "[email protected]" reported error (0x8004102A): Error with Send/Receive"

Is there a way of importing addresses from window live mail?

On the bottom of Outlook 2010 – it says “connected to Windows live hotmail” ??????

                              1) Again, delete the data file you don't use.

                              2) Delete the hotmail account, close & re-open Outlook, and recreate it.

Also, you really shouldn't post real email addresses on a forum. There are bots that scour forums for email addresses which are then sold to spammers.

The prolblem now is you asked me to delete the data file I dont use, but dont delete the default.   The one I dont want to use IS the default.   I then removed hotmail and thats where I am at the moment - in the process of adding it.  But nothing will change - I cant get rid of the Outlook Data File because its the default.

Make the other data file the default data file and then delete the other one.

Well that didn't work.    I now have 7 'tasks" and one of them gives the same error message as before

When you say it didn't work, I need to know exactly what you did and exactly what the result is. Do you now have only one data file? And the TASKS have an error message? That doesn't make sense.

btw, I'm logging off for the evening but will check back tomorrow.

Thanks for your help.   I dont have a data file now, just the two addresses that I originally wanted.

I now have 8 addresses when I send and receive.  I am assuming the last one (which is still processing) will be an error one.

I am sick of these problems, will uninstal outlook and see if it will work properly next time.

You're welcome. Sorry we had to go through so much - it would be so much easier if I had the computer in front of me - but such is the nature of support forums.

Allan and others - thanks for your past help.   Sorry I havent been in for a while, but my computer got hacked and since then, we have been able to get windows live mail running with hotmail, so I am not going to bother with outlook 2010 now.

I really do appreciate your past help.
