    The tab button on keyboard

How to use the tab button on my keyboard in Windows 8.1?

I would like to make my typing start 1.5 inches from the left of the page.

Please, please, don't advocate the use of margins, as when I tried using them it only gave me headaches.

I am thankful for any help you can give an old-age civil service pensioner.

Setting the tab spacing has nothing to do with the OS, it's a function of the application you're using.  What program are you using that you wish to set the tab spacing for?

Tab space in WordPad an other tools that use the DOC format set the tabs to match the marks at the ruler on the top of the page.
    see attachment.
Notice that the font and font size may alter the position, unless you make some  definite tab stops on the ruler. Select >format>tabs if using WordPad.
