    Saving data, emails, anything
    « on: September 19, 2015, 09:05:48 PM »
very often when I try to save whatever is on the screen it won't save.  I believe it started with Linked and now it affects whatever may be on the screen.  Ithought it was a virus or a lock but it doesn't make sense.  Some stuff will save others not.  I'm 73 and relatively new to this technology, so don't laugh!
What I've had to do is copy and paste onto word then save that.
    Thanks

Here you will find others that have the same problem.

Myself, for one. I am now 76 and have been classified as 'legally blind' for several years. So I can not drive a car and I get a slight bark on income tax. I need to use a computer in order to read without a lot of  eye strain and neck pain.

I used to copy and paste stuff from the current view and paste into notepad. That way I could enlarge the text for better visibility and not be hindered by pop ups and overlays.

Recently I  notice some website do something to make it very hard to copy and paste a part of a web page. To date I have not seen any explanation of this.

The only work around  I have is to use the 'select all' option. I use ctl-A to select the whole page, including what is not in the current view.  Then I  have to paste into notepad and look for the part  I wanted to read.  Yes, the browser has a zoom feature that helps. But graphics and scripts do not work well with high zoom settings, Like a 4x zoom. It gets to be a mess.

When I paste into notepad, the graphics and scripts and special effects do not transfer. I get  just the text. For some reason some websites do not allow me to select a portion of the ext. So I have to select all.

Maybe this would help you.  :)

EDIT: Tthis search may help also:
why you cannot select text in a web page

You could also try a "print screen" then paste it in a Word document.

Thanks so far.  I'll continue on!  BTW-Geek-the new aol 9.8 has a mail setting that allows you to enlarge font to assist in reading emails.  This is great for me as I had lazer surgery after a double cataract lens replacement, then they noticed a hole in the retina-hmmm!  Anyway, I now have vision in only one eye.  changing font really helps from going nuts.  I'll mess around with the other stuff and see if it helps, but there should be settings that allow you to do what you want on your computer and not dictated by someone else.  My vision was A-ok but in the military in air traffic and radar stuff it was very common for vision to go bad when watching a screen for hours on end.  After 1 year I required glasses, now I have tri-focals

Patio-thanks!  Linked does a lot of stuff that is questionable.  Somehow they get into your computer and take your address book, next thing you know they're sending you friend request for everyone in it, even the dead ones that I left in to see what or who does these things.  When you complain they start cutting you off and never get communiques any more from forums.  Same thing happened on Facebook.  Perhaps I'm being paranoid but I believe when you log on they have a program that allows them to enter your computer and insert language to this effect.  As I understand, Linked is an American company but developed by Indian IT specialists.  No criticism intended, but if the shoe fits!

I found it!! There is an add-in for Firefox called RightClick that ignores the JavaScript thing. With the right click enabled you can do the select and copy like before.  It is in the Firefox stuff under tools.
It seems that some think you will steal their copyright materiel if you copy and paste. But turning off the right click is pointless. If I wanted to steal their work, I would not just select a part of it! I would steal the whole thing! Which you can do with select all.
