Vista sleep mode
« on: October 17, 2015, 08:26:36 PM »
I just recently did a back up (Macrium Reflect) of my Vista Home Premium and it appears that all went well except PC will not sleep. I've Googled for solutions and no success. Some have suggested that it could be the mouse settings, power settings or even the video card?. Any suggestions here? overthehill

OS- Vista Home Premium
PC - Cisnet  Dual Core Pentium D,2800 MHz  Memory 3072 MB

Macrium Reflect will disable sleep mode.  This is normal
But how to turn it back on ? Did you already edit the sleep mode parameters?
This behavior  is documented on their web site forum. But not fully.

Spin up delay
If the backup target folder cannot be located when running a backup then an automatic delay of 5 seconds is initiated before retrying to allow for disks spinning up from sleep.
However, I did not find the 'fix' for this nor did it see anything specific to Vista.
You may need to search their website to find the answer.

That is the best I can do for your now.  :)

If Macrium disables sleep mode while it is writing a backup, and re-enables it when it has finished the backup, what's the problem? Am I missing something here? (I use Macrium myself)

Maybe the problem is really Vista.
Maybe this is a fix.

Sorry, I don't have a Vista machine to try and duplicate the behavior.

If it actually did that (re-enable) it would have been fine. For me it did not. After reading some of the links that Geek sent I found out that I was not the only one. Threads in the Macrium Reflect Forums had others having the same problem away back when. One fellow was so upset that he was going to reload Windows.

I was so sure that I tried all of the things mentioned in the previous links but I tried again with this link and this time it worked out perfectly. One thing that is different now, when the start button is clicked for( shut down options or?) the hibernate option is shown.

Within the sleep option in power settings, hibernate must be set to off. If the hibernate setting is set to on, the hibernate option does not appear with the start button. Sleep is shown(with start button) whether hibernate is off or on ( in power settings) but again sleep will not work without hibernate showing?. Thanks so much. overthehill

overthehill,
Glad you found it.  :)
So, in essence, you have to use a Vista option that t  works for you. Apparently the issue is not in later versions of Windows.

The back up that I have and used was from 2012 and that's where I read about others having the same problem at that time. I haven't backed up since then. I wonder if a newer version of Macrium would act the same way with Vista? I'll probably won't find out. If for some reason I have to re-install Vista from back up, I'll know what to do to put this puppy to sleep with the version that I have. Thanks again. overthehill
