Blocked From Using Hiren'S Boot CD By Strike F1 Error
    « on: December 15, 2015, 11:49:33 AM »
I have used Hiren's Boot CD a great deal, but now I am unable to. Whenever I click Enter on USB Flash Device in the menu, instead of opening up Hiren's Boot CD, it is giving me the message:

    Quote
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility.

When I strike F1, it just repeats the same message ad infinitum.

I have Hiren's on a 4GB flash drive. (My old computer won't let me boot from CD or DVD.)

As for the context of this, I have replaced an old hard drive that was clearly on its way to failure with a larger unused IDE drive. The BIOS seems to recognize that there is a new hard drive, but elsewhere I see non-recognition, including within MiniXP on Hiren's before this error shut down my access to Hiren's.

    Hiren's Boot CD
... has been marked as disruptive or illegal shareware.
    Somebody said elsewhere:
    Quote
...the Hiren's of old contained paid commercial software, violating copyrights in the process, but the new Hiren's Boot CD is mainly all Freeware, with some Shareware programs.
My self, I just don't use it. There are many other similar products.  :)

Sounds like you need to replace the 2032 CMOS battery as for its a common message when BIOS is not holding configuration. If you have a multimeter check to see if the battery is 3 Volts. If its lesser than 2.8 volts I'd replace it. Someone once told me that 2.73 volts was the drop out voltage for BIOS's to lose their configuration or act flakey and any voltage lesser would likely show as a battery failure message.

Given age of this Pentium 4 system. I'd say its the CMOS battery a 2032 that can be bought just about anywhere cheaply.

Also you may need a PS2 keyboard...

I have finally gotten my computer to recognize the new hard drive. My dilemma is that I have not been able to populate my new hard drive with the old hard drive's image (which is on an external hard drive) because now my computer will only let me boot into USB drive when I take my hard drive out. It did let me boot to USB drive with the previous hard drive in place.
