Installing a XP Hard Drive
« on: November 17, 2005, 09:54:22 PM »
I was using a gateway with a PIII and the PS 2 connection got fried. Tried to use a USB keyboard but the system did not recognize it. So I had another gateway with a Celeron processor with Win98SE on it.

I tried to remove the hard drive out of the PIII machine which has XP Home and put it on onto the Celeron which has Win 98SE.

The problem is that Windows XP cannot load because the Mobo was designed for Win98SE. I looked on the Gateway support site and there was no drivers for XP for the Celeron machine.

Is there a way that I can get to a DOS prompt so that I can reformat the drive and put Win98SE back on it?

Go to www.bootdisk.com and download a boot disk. Delete the partition with FDISK and make a new one. Then format the hard drive and you should be ready.
