computer cant open OS restore Image

A few days ago my windows 98SE horribly crashed and destroyed hard drive. I changed the hard drive with a Quantum BigFoot. Everything works but when I put the windows restoration CD it starts the program but when its about to start a message box appears and it says "Image file could not be opened" so now im stuck without a computer . What should I do? anything will help.

Did you format the hard drive before using it?

I believe Dummy2k once recommended to use /Fdisk.
