What do you need it for?  I personally wouldn't trust any "VPN service" - you are routing your traffic through some random organisation's machine.

    Camerongray is right.
Is this part of a Press Release for a security company?
Here is why I ask. I found an item that seemed to be about a unknown  new security threat. But it really was an attempt scare people into buying a VPN service. Here on this forum I was corrected. It was only an advertisement.

Most social forums with technical embers will tell you what Camerongray said.
You browser will kick into security mode when it is needed. VPN never makes you invisible.Your PC will still leave tracks in the  snow,  in a manner of speaking.

the browsers are getting in on the act as chrome, opera and firefox add a vpns.

      For Chrome and Opera:
ZenMate VPN - Best Cyber Security & Unblock - Chrome Web Store

      For Firefox:
      https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/zenmate-security-privacy-vpn/versions/

An article from Sophos' Naked Securityabout Opera's forthcoming version +VPN:
Opera adds a (sort of) VPN to its browser – Naked Security/

also, for further news on the subject, (as far as I know) this will be fully available in either Opera 37.0, which hasn't released a final stable version so far, or 38.0 still a developer's version I think, although you can get an RC beta version of 37.0.

there's more info about the VPN in the Opera blog here:
Free VPN | Now built into Opera browser

access Surf Easy VPN in Opera 36.0 if you go to Settings>Privacy & security where there's a link which takes you here:
SurfEasy VPN - VPN Service for Android, iOS, Mac & Windows

It looks as if it might not be long now until a stable version of Opera 37 is released.

I'm not sure when it changed, but VPN always stood for "Virtual Private Network" to me. Many services calling themselves "VPN"s are actually HTTP proxies.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

BC, Let me do a simple illustration.
If you and had two tin cans and a 100 meter length of string, we could have a private conversation. They would be no need to make it virtual.
But if we used megaphones instead, it would not be private at all.

An mechanism to let people communicate in a public place without others bowing might be named a VPN, in a manner of speaking. If we both spoke a minor language of Malaysia, and were the only ones, we could have a private conversation. But claiming to be anonymous would be incorrect.
