Dell has a website and support lines. Have you considered contacting them?

I have. They won't just tell me--they want me to send them my laptop so they can do the work. Go figure...

That is so wrong. Go here

    http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board?board.id=latit_upgrade

and register for the forum and ask the question. They will not tell you that, because they don't work for Dell. Dell does not want to upgrade your processor. You do. Sheesh.

You are talking about a C800 which is a laptop (red flag #1) and you want to open it and make some changes to the way the proprietary parts were assembled for optimum function (red flag #2) and I am guessing you have no experience working with laptops (red flag #3).

It will either be cost prohibitive, or a total disaster. I suggest just leaving it alone. It's not like just popping out an old part and putting in a new one. Really!  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
