desk top/ tool bar

i have windows xp and seems to be loading up but my screen does not show my desk top or tool bar, my niece was playing with it yesterday.  help

Does it make you so desperate to put double posts?


Right click on your desktop-->Arrange Icons by-->and tick Show Desktop Items.

Can you get to safe mode?

Thank you for responding, I can get to safe mode and i also tried to restore system it still will not let me see the tool bar or desk top. when i re start it i can see windows loading up then it goes to a sreen saver mode i think. I am stumped

Thanks so much for your help!  I'm not sure that I'm describing my problem correctly.  Let me try again.  

When I restart the computer Windows loads up.  I can see my normal wallpaper, however there are no desktop icons and there isn't a start menu.  Thanks for being patient with me.
