The technical details are that in August Microsoft discovered a potential security hole in Windows Secure Boot used on many tablets, phones etc and hurriedly released an update which fixed it, but it had the side effect of making the EFI Boot partition visible as a drive letter in Windows Explorer (This PC etc).
