I cant veiw certain images

sorry if this sounds stupid, but i cant veiw certain images, and it wont let me play any internet games. it keeps coming up with this box that looks like (if this works) this -


what does it mean? i have downloaded java and shockwave, but still no luck, can anyone give me advise?

Do you by any chance have a bar at the top of your Internet Explorer window that says something about images being blocked?

I'm experiencing the same problem and haven't seen sofar any intelligent suggestion from this forum!

Wahl,

The reason you may have not seen "intelligent suggestions" is that no pertinent information has been posted. To start with:

What version of Windows?

Are all service packs and updates installed?

Is this a cable or dial up connection? If using an internet accelerator, this can cause it.

What Browser?

What are the security settings?

What firewall?

Are you using spyware/adware/antivirus solutions so you are not getting any problem from internet scum?

Has it always been this way or is it a new occurrence?

How computer savvy are you?

Now some of these have been answered since the original post, but getting pertinent info out of some posters is like pulling teeth.

There was a question to the original poster on 12/9 that has still gone unanswered. If they bail, we cannot track them down to follow up. If your situation is different, then post away.

So let's fill in all of the rest of the blanks and go from there. Your system may be different. That is why it is important to start a new thread and not just hijack someone else's.

Please also keep in mind that this is a volunteer forum - you are not paying for 24/7 support. Responses are given as time and inclination allow.

I'd like to point out that the problem surfaced lately - after working well for the longest time. Furthermore the problem doesnt come up on my other computer - which is usually not connected online.

Windows version XP;
Service packs - cant tell;
Connected via ADSL,  no internet accelerator;
Browser IE6.2800.2180...............
Security settings - medium;
No firewall;
Spyware/adware/antivirus solutions: Microsoft antispyware is active; Symantec antivirus;

I'm quite savvy with PCs.

This my first connection to this forum and any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Service packs - cant tell



Right click on "My Computer". Then left click "Properties" The info in the General Tab will tell you what service packs are installed.

Try control panel/internet/advanced. Under multimedia check the options that apply. NOTE: Some MS updates disable certain image types due a security vulnerablity. MS has never fixed the problem, they just disabled the images from displaying.
