    Windows Vista Home Premium.
    Will this work ? I intend to back up the computer to save my files, re install the original OS
    and then restore my files with the back up disk.

    As long as backing up your data to an external drive, then whichever backup untility used, you have that installed on the clean build, you should be able to then restore from backup your files. However programs associated with the files will need to be reinstalled if not part of the clean installation of the computer from system disc reinstallation.

    You may have to DLoad it for Vista...

      I thought I could back up files (photos in this case) on to a DVD.
       It would take less time than burning, I think.

      Without a clear goal of what you want backed up it's just guesswork at this point...
      Yes just backing up the photos would work...but it's not what you asked originally...

      After you create the back up how ever you decide to do them test them to make sue they work and the files come up properly.

      Backing up to a DVD is burning, so how does that equate to less time?
