Problems starting my PC

I was playing something on my computer then it suddenly froze. I closed it by holding the "POWER" button and then i restarted it. But instead of seeing my normal desktop, i saw only my mouse icon. I waited a long time but nothing happened.
Do you have any ideas about how to repair it?

I would try 2 or 3 cold boots....cold boot = full shutdown and a 2-3 minute wait...
