can't access virus protection
« on: December 05, 2005, 12:14:50 PM »
I'm working with XP pro sp 1 with intel zeon processors.

I have a virus that showed up when I tried to update to SP2.
I couldn't get to the update area for SP2 so I thought I'd check norton for viruses.

I tried to update Norton with an update I bought at Good Guys.  NO LUCK!

I then found out that I can't access any antivirus sites and I can't get into my registry.

HELP!?

Try starting in safe mode with networking, tap F8 just after the post screen.
Then try some scans if it works.

      Are you doing it right?
Have you ever started in safe mode before?

Yeah, I've started in safe mode but when I try hitting f8 it doesn't do anything.

I did manage to get it to show me the safe mode option screen but even when I get there it won't let me use the up arrow to get to safe mode

If the up arrow isn't working either try the Tab key to move or power down and plug in a PS2 keyboard.

razor1....... Ok , if you have a floppy drive good..........
            on another computer , D/L stinger .......
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/  and save it to a floppy disk ...then run Stinger on your pc ......... hopefully it will find and delete the culperate.    Then you should be able to load Norton 2005 ......... If you still have bits and pieces of norton still installed ....D/L Norton Remover .....
            http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Norton-Removal-Tool.shtml

Once you have removed all the bits and pieces......try and reinstall Norton AV 2005 ...... It should install ok .
