Windows xp can't find my external hard drive
« on: December 08, 2005, 10:53:38 AM »
I recently added an external hard drive, formatted and had it up and going. Put a lot of photos and music on it. Unfortunatley I had to reinstall my Windows xp and now it wont recognize my external hard drive. The old external hard drive letters have dissapeared. How do I get my new xp to recognize my external hard, which is on a usb connection?

Did you reinstall windows with the external drive connected?
Did it come with any drivers or diagnostic tools?

Try 'Reset Configuration Data' or Clear DMI Pool' options in the BIOS. Yes or Enabled are the options to set to.

Right clik on My Computer, select Manage and check to see if it shows up in Disk Management...if so assign it a drive letter and re-boot.

Did you reinstall the USB drivers and update them?
