32 GB bug
« on: December 08, 2005, 10:21:17 PM »
Some time ago I purchsed a 40 GB hard drive Maxtor. Because my (DAEWOO CB650M-BX) motherboard bios was not up to date it did not recognize the 40 GB drive. I had to set the jumpers to only report 32 GB. Now I have the drive in a new PC and you like to remove the 32 GB clip to use the full 40 GB, but I am concerned that I will lose data already on the drive...

Does anyone know what will happen if I remove that clip?

its highly likely you will not see the data after changing the jumper as the "master boot record" MBR will change and the data could then be over writtten.
can you not copy the data onto another drive first or the important stuff onto cds or dvds
