Hello. This is my first post. I aquired this case from my local thrift store in Springfield, MO & there isnt much information about it on the box it came with (& nothing signifigant on the internet). The box says that it was made by Super Talent, but they seem to have been only making RAM, and storage drives for a while now. The case itself is described as a mid-tower atx case, & is "portable". I have pictures of the case in my phone, but not sure how to put them here. It came with a 350 PSU that turned out to be dead, & some a small bag of screws, standoffs, and a motherboard buzzer... let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

I'm not sure what the question is...it's a decent enough case...

I just hope they aren't asking for help figuring out why it won't power up...  ;D

@deavan,
welcome to the forum.

here is a list of a typical case description.
as you'll see, all the info it shows you'll be able to determine since you already have the case.
usually it's the other way around.  :)

I mean yeah, i guess just observing the case will give those details, but i guess i have been asking the wrong question then. Should i mod this to become more up to date, or leave it how it is. Im not sure. My main concerns are the fan compatibility and the fact the psu is mounted on top... maybe if i made it function similar to a actual desktop and not a tower... idk.

Modding is up to you...personal choice...

As far as upper rear it's actually the gest location for the PSU

I'm with patio.
honestly, PSU at top or on bottom, the changes/benefits in airflow would be so small that they'd be negligible.
they have only moved to the bottom in the last, say 3-5 years, it's just a current design trend more than anything else.
in fact, one design flaw of the bottom mounted PSU is their insane ability to suck up dust and fibres.

your choices of fans will not be limited at all.
you have options for front, top, rear and side fans.
and the size of those holes for mounting fans look like 72, 80 or maybe 90mm, which are all readily available. (as are any other size)

Out of curiosity, how did you determine that the PSU was dead?  If you simply tried to plug it in and turn it on, that wont work as it requires a load to be attached.

The case looks pretty generic, the only reason it is deemed portable is because of the carrying handle on top.  This makes it more "luggable" than "portable".

also of concern would be the lack of front USB ports (can't see any from the photos).
especially no USB3 front ports.  any new motherboard will have a USB3 header for front port access but your case won't be able to take advantage of that.
small detail I know but may be worth considering if the case is worth the effort.
after all, a new one with all the mod-cons from well known brands with history in the market place can be had for under $AUD60.

Front USB might be hidden somewhere on the front, behind a flap or other reticulating piece of the case, same with things like front-panel audio, often they get hidden for some weird design reason. Though at best it would be USB 2.0.

A front-panel could be purchased and installed which can plug into a USB 3 capable motherboard though to provide front-panel USB3. Whether it's worth it is another question.

Well, i have looked around the case, & i can confirm that the i/o is hidden behind a spring flap door at the bottom, but there is only 2 usb 2.0, headphone out + mic in, and a cutout for Firewire... i dont have any 3.0 ports (because of it's age of course). Well, i guess i don't have any way to test or know if the PSU is alive or dead, but i am still replacing it with a more powerfull/efficient one. I may keep it if it works, for a GPU or something; or take it apart for components. I will probably block the very small bottom plate fan port off. On one of my side panels there is a cutout with acrylic board and another 80mm fan. I think i may enlarge it to 120mm for a CPU AIO water cooler in the future. I know for a fact that i will only be using one Graphics Card, though. My next question is should i de-rivit the 3.5" drive bay rail and shorten it from either the bottom or top.

While I suppose it's fine as a case modding project, it's not a particularly special case, would have been pretty cheap and low end when new.  You can almost certainly get a much newer case with proper fittings for 120mm fans and USB 3.0 stuff for very little money nowadays.  While this case would still work for a basic PC, if you are building anything resembling high performance (in particular using a liquid cooler) I'd almost certainly just pick up a newer case.

I may just stick to air cooling. Idk yet. I'm not going to be doing heavy Overclocking, & an AIO may not even be necessary for me. But i do want larger fans than 80mm. There are a lot of PCi slots in the case i wont be able to use, because i'm going to buy a mini-ITX  motherboard (because of the onboard wifi module, single PCI-express slot, & the small form factor). This may be a poor use of the case space though.

Curious about this...there's many ATX boards that have those features...

Well, I was originally going to do a small form factor build as my first build.
