Monitor *censored*

My problems began when I brought a couple of computers and thier monitors down to my basement after being in use in my upstairs computer room.  When I went to plug these monitors in they turn on and after a couple seconds flash and go dead.  I have tried to plug these computer monitors in different places but they still won't work are they dead and is it ever going to be safe to plug a computer monitor in the my basement.

More likely a bad connection to the video card, or in the move the video card became unseated from it's socket. Just moving a monitor should not matter. Can you open a case (with the power off!) and check the connections/ What computer make/model?
