stuck in sleep mode
« on: December 26, 2005, 04:43:43 PM »
I have a pentium 4 2.6 Gig 512 K 400 MHZ cpu with a LG 1512 Flatron monitor.

Last night my wife's kids were MSN'ing, which doesn't happen often on my cpu.
After they were done no one used the machine. The machine was left on overnight and this happens often.
This morning I tried to use and discovered the machine looked like it was in sleep mode. The power was on but the monitor stated 'sleep mode'.
Usually you can just press the power button and it comes to life but it didn't happen.
Fiddled with the front four buttons of the monitor and now it says 'Burn in' when you turn it on and then proceeds to display different colors screens and nothing else. I can't get it to change back to displaying 'sleep mode'.

Anyway, the cpu still powers up to look like it's in sleep mode. There's no reboot, no beeps, no nothing but a cpu that looks like it's on.

Tried resetting, taking apart and cleaning any dust in the machine and uplugging everything and turning it off but to no avail.

Anybody have any ideas?

Monitor won't power back up

The same kinda thing just happened to me today. Here's my story for the 20th time today: "OKay can you please just tell me how to fix this. I got a new computer 2 days ago. It worked just like it was supposed to. Today I leave my computer to go have a snack, come back about 15 min later and the monitor had gone off. I wasn't surprised because it automatically powers down after 10 min of inactivity. Well I moved the mouse AND IT WOULD NOT COME BACK ON! The power is on, its hooked up and everything,& the mouse is hooked up. I tried restarting, turning off all power to everything, and trying a different monitor but it did the same thing. After fooling around with the monitor reset buttons it shows an error message saying "Out of range" right before it goes into standby. Please tell me how to fix this. Thanks!"

More information: IT DOES NOT SHOW ANYTHING AT ALL, except when I hold down the power button it shows the 3 color bars; red, green,& blue. That's it. Please someone tell me how to fix this. And yes, I am using a different computer to write this.

I WOULD BE FOREVER GRATEFUL IF YOU CAN HELP ME!!!!

Boot into Safe Mode- F8 and make sure the driver settings are correct (Refresh Rate) for your monitor.

What monitor ? and what video card ?
