Windows keep closing
« on: January 08, 2006, 12:08:39 PM »
Hello all I hope that you can help.  I regard myself as someone who can work a computer but when it gets technical i'm hopeless.
Basically, my Internet Explorer screens have started closing of their own accord and I have no idea why.  My PC is only 2 months old.  I have no idea what to do to fix this.

Also further to my annoyance, when I first turn the PC on an Internet page decides to load itself eveytime for a specific site.  I have searched for the files and deleted them but it still happens.  I believe its embedded itself somewhere but i cant seem to stop it.

If anyone thinks they can help i'd be very grateful.  My e-mail is [email protected] and i'll check here for any help.

Many thanks.

Carry out each step to the letter then come back clean.

    Download, install & update...
    CLEANUP
    Ccleaner
    ANTI SPYWARE
    Ad-Aware
    Spybot S&D
    Microsoft Antispyware (W2k & XP)
    ANTI VIRUS
AVG Free (Set options to 'scan all files')
    ANTI TROJAN
    EWIDO (W2k & XP)

Turn off System Restore if applicable. (ME & XP users)

    Run Ccleaner
    Run Ad-Aware
    Run Spybot
    Run Microsoft Antispyware
    Run AVG Free
    Run Ewido

    Re-start in Safe Mode
    Re-run AVG Free

    Re-start in Normal Mode
Turn on System Restore if applicable. (ME & XP users)

    Every step ;)

    Kudos to Fed.

This sounds as if you may have a hijacker at work.......
D/L hijackthis from ...... http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html   ....... Download hijackthis and save it to your desktop ......then run a scan with it and post the logfile it generates here for us to check.

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

phill...... Your log looks ok now .......after you removed the entries that Fed has suggested .......... But you are still being redirected ....so try this .
open up Internet Explorer to the page that you are being redirected to ......and then up at the top click on Tools , Internet Options ...... then in the homepage section.........  type in   http://msn.com ........ Then click apply and then OK .......
Now reboot .....and when its rebooted click on your Internet Explore icon on your desktop and you should open up the msn.com page .........
You can change the msn,com page to anything you wish ....just use the same procedure .

let us know if that corrects your issue.
