D drive is jammed
« on: January 14, 2006, 03:03:27 PM »
Hello,

I just put in a rather old and scratched game, and installed it. All went smoothly, but when I tried to remove the disc.. nothing. I've hit the button in every way imaginable, I've gone through My Computer to slect Eject for the drive, I've reset my computer, I've turned it off and used the paper clip hole thing, nothing works. Also, when I tried the paper clip trick, it seemed like it was jammed. On my other computer, I hit a solid surface then push it back, or up, and the drive opens. With this one, no matter how hard I push  it remains stable.

Any ideas?

I think all you can do is continue with the paperclip approach escalating to ->screwdriver->crowbar.

With my other computer, that'd be fairly easier to do, but this one the edges of the tray seem rather thick, you you'd have to get something in pretty deep before prying, which could damage it. I tried using a pick, but it seemed like all that was coming forward was the plastic front, not the entire tray. Should I trying using the pin at the same time as pulling it?

Try using the pin combined with pushing and then pulling.
As you said, the pin should 'hit' something inside.

I just tried the pin again,, pressed a lot harder, and it came out a bit, so I pulled it, but it tried to go back in, pullng as hard as I could without yanking the tray off I couldn't keep it open long enough to get the disc out. -_- Man vs Machine

I suspect you will have the disk out by your next post. :D

Hehe yep. Still problems though.. whichever disc I put in, the D drive can't read it, and has the logo of the game in My Computer. Also, the last disc I put it, when I took it out it was spinning faster than I've ever seen a CD spin, and I could smell smoke. o_O

I'm thinking you may have to buy a new one Joe.

Aye.. it's my brother's computer though. He likes to blame me for things that happen to it when I'm in the next room.. this isn't going to be good. -_- Thanks for the help though :)

Place one of your own disks in it & blame him for his computer eating your disk. :D

Don't give up until AFTER you try this. It may well work.

This has the makings of a Q&A thread.
              Do some work Mods.
