« on: January 19, 2006, 12:21:55 PM »
Hello Everyone. I am extremely new with computers and I need some help. ForChristmas i got a future shop gift card so i went out and bought a laptop. Now the box says
Mobile AMD Athlon 64 4000+
Operates at 2.6 GHz
But When i check what my computer was telling me it said 1.86 GHz

The box also said
ATI Mobility Radeon x600
256 MB HyperMemory
But the sticker says its only a 128.
Did the future shop screw me over. or am I just not understanding things. i dont know. like i said i dont understand what to expect. please help me if youhave the time.
Thanks a Bundle

ComputerVirgin..... First of all ...tell us which laptop it was your intention to purchase.  ( a brand name and model number )
Then it sounds as if you purchased your laptop after Christmas........
Was the packaging on the laptop original or had it been opened and then resealed ....... A lot of stuff gets returned right after Christmas and is simply resealed and put back on the shelves .......... So to answer your question ...its very possible you didnt get what you thought you had purchased ........
If that was the case Future Shop will certainly make it right for you .....but dont wait too long .

where in your laptop are you finding this info ?

    D/l pc wizard 2006 from ...  http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php
the d/l link is down the page ....look for " Self installing EXE package" .....

Once it installed ...open it and click on the system summary icon ..... top left one .....and all the info will be displayed in the window on the right side .....look for hard disk and it will tell you the model and the size of it .

    Hope this helps

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

the Note Book is a Gateway MX7525
And none of the seals were broken.
i got the size of the hard drive from "my computer" i just left the mouse over it and it said 88.1. with the program you told me to download it says its a
    FUJITSU 100 GB.
i also found that when the refer to the 256MB graphics the are counting both local and shared memory.
thanks for responding and being so helpful.
but i was wondering why does my computer say its total size is 88?
thanks again. i might be able to stop worrying now. =)

ComputerVirgin.....  I would say you received what you paid for........

You might do this ..... click Start/Control Panel/Administrative tools/Computer management /Disk management  .....have a look and see what it says .....

I am having a similar issue. Got a 200 GB hdd and the tool you just mentioned says 189.91 GB max. PC wizard 2006 says 204 GB but that's little comfort if I run out of hard drive space (in the very distant future...)

200 GB (Metric or nominal size) = 186.26 GB Binary size.

          METRIC to BINARY

Thanks for the info. So, I do have all 200 GB. It'll be interesting to see the computer say 0 GB free as I'm installing something else...  ::)
