Drives not recognized during BOOT

My computer recognizes memory, date and time. the hangs.
The computer is not locked, just halts.  the only option is to press delete and go into bios.
I do get the initial beeps, but the drive lights are off, no recognition of floppy, hard drive, or cd
any ideas

When did this start? Have you installed any hardware/software recently? Virus protection installed? Which operating system are you using?

i replaced the motherboard, it is an old AT motherboard, P166MHZ, 32mb memory

If this happened with the new (old) motherboard just installed, either it is bad, or itis installed incorrectly or both. Check all cablioing as well. Do you even know for a fact that it works?
