IDE HD with unrecognized adapter
« on: February 01, 2020, 05:54:32 AM »

I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what it is; I try to connect an IDE HD to the SATA terminal of the MOBO thru adapter. It is not recognized, neither by the BIOS, nor by the OS, windows 10 or Ubuntu. I used three adapters and two disks, each with 160G and ... nothing. On my board, ASUS with Phenom II M5A78L I use a DVD drive connected to the IDE socket. One SSD in SATA 1 and another 1T in SATA 5. This one of the attempts, I plugged in any free SATA.

It is

Can you give details of the adapter most IDE to Sata have a jumper or switch to set what the mother board connection is .

Instead of using sata to ide adapters consider with your motherboard a PCI to IDE card.

Hi

The red SATA cable is on the wrong connection in the picture for a mother board SATA to IDE hard drive. Try it on the other SATA connection. If you look at the image I attached it shows the direction of the 2nd port.

Oh sorry the image is to small to see . Also you do need the power plugged into the Hard drive as well as the adapter.

Also if it still doesn't work use either SATA 5 or 6 on your MB, these are the SATA ports closet to the memory and in the bios set these ports to IDE mode. They default to ACHI mode which is not compatible with your adapter.

Well, no good news. Firstly, no matter connection in SATA 2 the device is not seen. More, putting SATA cable as you said (in adapter) was worse: thes computer entered in a "limbo" state, without completing boot. Maybe the guilt be the MOBO.

As soon as possible I'll try to connect in  another PC :(

Hi Again

The IDE drive needs to be jumper ed to Master mode not cable select with those adapters.
