    As Peter said, the most credible and complete free alternative to MS Office (minus unfortunately Outlook) is OpenOffice, now in it's second version.  >Get it here<

    The opera browser has an email client, and there is the companion to the firefox browser, called thunderbird.

    The trouble is that those email clients don't even begin to approach the functionality that Outlook offers, with integrated Calendar etc.  Plus for me it's got the best support for synchronising with my PDA - absolutely essential to my life...  Hopefully someone will eventually do a decent port of Evolution to Windows and provide a good PDA conduit...

    Are you saying that if you get rid of MS Office, you lose Outlook?  My understanding is Windows XP allows use of Outlook by itself.  Am I wrong?

    Outlook Express is included with Windows. Outlook is a separate program, or obtained as part of MS Office.
