ntldr missing from xp

Had a problem e,very one said I had a virus so ran my rescue cd's. But when I got to end of last disk .  get hp blue screen then  dos screen saying ntldc is missing have ran install two times, both times same outcome. What am I   dooing wrong.
Please help

 Unfortunately my lap top runs 2000. guess I may have to nd up having to have some one else fix it. don't know any one with  xpThought all the rescue disks from hp should have all that but guess not. Thanks any way for your help.

Am confused.  Why are you using Win 2000\ME when the possible cure lies with the pc running XP.  Your subject is ntldr missing from xp  :-?

Perhaps you should restate which OS has the problem...

Sorry about the confusion . the problem computer is running Windows XP .had a virus so ran my rescue cd's. Was trying doing a total re format. But when I got to end of last disk .  get hp blue screen then  dos screen saying ntldc is missing have ran install two times, both times same outcome. One of the posts said to copy missing files. from computer I was using to write these posts.I thought it was runing Microsoft 2000 however when I checked I realized it is ME edition . Hope this clears up the conffusion trying to find some one locally I can get to make a floppy of the ntird file.

You also get this message when a non-bootable floppy is left in the drive. Does this apply by chance?

If you suspect a malware attack the last thing you should do is try to format/reinstall.  There are lots of free malware removal tools available to remove 99.99% of all known infections.

Now understand that you do not have a full cd of the XP OS

Format a floppy disk in Windows 2000 or XP and copy the [highlight]ntldr[/highlight] and [highlight]ntdetect.com[/highlight] files to it.

Choose the right XP boot.ini file from the two standard examples below depending on whether you are using XP Home or XP Professional and copy and paste into Notepad then save as [highlight]boot.ini[/highlight]

Then copy the new [highlight]boot.ini[/highlight] file to the floppy.

Now put the floppy in the XP computer and see if it will boot to the hard drive.

Hopefully the XP computer does have a floppy drive.
